| Is, philosophy: the word “is” has different functions like expressing an identity e.g. A is B, attributing a property e.g. the sky is blue or being contained in a set e.g. "Heaven" is a concept. These functions must not be confused. II 27f Is/Tugendhat: triple meaning of being (already in Plato, Sophist): 1. existence, 2. predication 3. Identity. II 116 Is/Heidegger/Tugendhat: "The sky is blue" (Example from Heidegger). To which being refers "is"? To the sky or to what is meant by "blue"?
